Tips for improving workflow, avoiding ink/paper waste and get the job done in the most accurate way

Hello friends, I am really curious about what you do in order to reach print accuracy/satisfaction in the most productive and parsimonious way.

I mean, we all already know about the big picture (proper calibrated monitor and printer, a good ambient luminance, good quality ink, print frequently, etc). What I would like to find out is anything else you generally do in your workflow to speed up things or to reach a satisfactory print without wasting too much time, ink and paper.

As an...

Printer Recommendation for Stationery?

Hello,

I wanted to see if anyone could give me advice on selecting a printer?
I'm pretty sure, for what I need right now... is a pigment-based inkjet printer.

I currently use a really old Canon Pixma MG3220. I have been using this for printing out simple art prints, but now that I have been getting more into stationery creation... I've been having some issues.

For the past 2 weeks, I've just been obsessively looking for a printer that fits my needs under my budget.
I've come to realize I...

3. A3 format.

At the moment the only printer I found is EPSON L1800. Would appreciate any advice.

Many thanks

After experimenting a lot with ArgyllCMS and in a previous post Emulator posted my optimized 480target for ArgyllCMS, I am still impressed by the very neutral B/W prints obtained with this setup, even on printers having NO dedicated gray ink cartridges.

Superior to any profiles produced with the standard Colormunki method and improved afterwards with 2 optimization targets to improve B/W printing with minimum amount of colour patches. It produces even better prints compared to the ones with...

Epson Artisan 837 Pic Quality vs HP 7525? Upgrade worth the hassle?

I got an HP 7525 for free off the neighbor's trash pile. Clogged print head. 30 hours of patient soaking and it's working fine. I just happen to have plenty of 564 cart refill ink from my days of using the CISS with my now-dead HP C309a.

So I have no money invested in the 7525 but I've got an itch to try the Epson Artisan 837. I've found an old-stock-new-in-box one for $100.

Based on all the reviews I've read the picture quality of the 837 is excellent. The HP is not bad but I can see...

Hi Guys,

What is the best approach to testing a used inkjet printer? I saw a good deal on craigslist for a Canon Pro-100 that I want to use as a spare and I just want to make sure that its functional.

Thanks for any help!

Storing Ink

Hi Guys,

I just watched a youtube video (jtoolman, you're the best!) about refilling and the possibility of introducing contaminates to the ink. While using asceptic techniques to keep the needles as clean as possible while refilling the carts, would there be some "bad" side effects if I would store the ink in a small fridge?

Cleaning solution: the ultimate test

Many forum members have enjoyed my formula to condition the sponge of Canon cartridges.

The formula is as follows:

-3 ml propylene glycol (or 2 % glycerol)
-20 ml isopropylalcohol
-distilled water up to 100 ml

The cleaning solution to free up clogged printheads is by adding 20-25 drops of concentrated ammonia to each 100 ml of cleaning solution.

Today I suffered from a tenacious clog in my Epson Pro 3800 in the magenta and cyan channel, caused probably by long term of non-usage and the...

Suitable printer for large volume pigment printing on gloss

Ok, it goes something like this - right now I have a couple of Canon printers with CISSs and dye ink that I use for printing leaflets and other promotional type material for people. I use double sided media that produces photographic quality prints on both sides and I'm very happy with it. The problem is that the dyes that I use (InkTec) don't last long in certain environments. If exposed to direct sunlight my printing will fade withing 4-5 days. Indoor it can last up to a few month. I manly...

My profiles just suck.

I don't know what's going on with my i1 PhotoPro 2 profiling using x-rite's i1 Profiler software, but my profiles bite the dust against the manufacturers.

Mine seem to be much smaller in overall gamut coverage. 3rd party ink (Cone)? Initial ink loading or density before profiling? Something's askew somewhere.

The attached image shows the manufacture's (wireframe) of theirs against mine which is the small solid one inside of theirs. Theirs has a better (denser) black, brighter white,...

Leave it on or turn it off ?

Some guys swear by leaving their printer on 24/7 that is wastes far less ink on cleaning, but does it, how do you know. ? :hu

The best way I found was to let the printer turn itself off but leave it plugged into the mains all of the time and that way the printer has the ability to keep track of time itself.

But if you power off and unplug the printer from the mains it will do a cleaning cycle every time you turn it back on again, it can do a small, medium or large flush, guess which,...

Black Ink Fade Test…

What I have found mostly with inkjet ink that the black will fade just as quickly as the colours will, so I printer out this swatch and placed it in a window in direct Sunlight.

I don’t imagine I’ll have to wait to lone for the results, maybe 4 to 6 weeks, and that should show quite a bit of change in some of the black inks.

I used several different black inks, starting with from left:- FotoRite photo dye, I.S Pigment Matte, Laser Toner, Again FotoRite Photo dye (Over Print) dye on dye,...

I came across this snipped of information on a Canon website, yes I know its probably porkies but this was in reference to the new Canon CISS printers, that are starting to hit the market place in certain countries.

Is the new bottled ink formulated differently from their other cartridge ink, ? it could be one to watch out for, but I also like the reference to non-Canon photo papers.

Why tell little white lies when you can tell really big white lies, time will tell if the new smoking print...

Hi, I've written a small utility program for the Mac named Inkjet Plumber. The utility will send a small print job to the printer(s) of your choosing at the interval (in hours) that you specify.

It will print small (0.5" x 0.5") color swatches in cyan, yellow, magenta, black, gray, light gray, red, green, and blue. Some additional textual information regarding the page and paper settings is included in the development releases...

Can I be so bold as to ask a question, and I guess the answers will probably be far simpler that I suspect, the men in white coats will be calling soon.

Why do many many guys have so much trouble trying to use an inkjet printer, this goes double for Mac users, these little printers are no more complex than a wind up train set, or a transistor radio, Aren’t they...? :idunno

First you unbox it and follow the instructions, then you set it up on the desk free from tape, plug...

Printer Minefield - Asking for help

Hello all,

This thread is likely to help many many people that happen across this forum. I hope that it prompts discussion and exploration of a question that many households have.

I am looking for a AIO colour printer for my parents (in their 60's) - maybe 20 pages a month.

Reliability - ease of use - and cost of compatible/non oem inks - are our main concerns. We have no issues with refilling cartridges.

They prefer to print photos at the supermarket - rather than at home. They do...

A google search will find many of the service manuals, but you have to wade through a lot of garbage to find them. This site offers a good many of them for free:

http://soft-manufaktura.ru/servman.html

If its a PDF, it should be safe to open. I would be wary of any that require you to run a program as an executable as it could be a virus or trojan. Unzipping should be fine, but running executables is risky as you don't know if the program is safe or not.

Problems sharing printers in Windows 10, RESOLVED!

I updated my laptop to Win 10 two weeks ago, and was able to still print ("printer sharing") to my wife's Win 7 USB-connected MP730 over the home network.

Then I upgraded my wife's computer to Win 10 several days after mine.

Upon looking at printers in the devices and printer settings menu on her computer, Win 10 noted that there was "no driver available", but it still worked from her USB-connected computer! I guess it downloaded and used an old Canon driver...

BUT, upon attempting to...
