Inkjet printer recommendations wanted

Recently bought a Canon Pixma TS9020 which turned out to be useless for my needs, so before I waste anymore money, I'd like opinions on these models:
Epson Expression Photo XP-8500
" Expression ET-2700
" Expression ET-2600
" Stylus C88+
Brother MFC-J870DW
" MFC-J680DW
Above all else, the printer I buy must work with Windows XP Pro. Even better if it has Linux drivers too ( I use Debian and Ubuntu-based distros). Can someone confirm the above will fit the bill, or tell me nay so I can...

A few Suggestions That Might Help If purchasing a new Inkjet printer...

Some of these suggestions may not apply specifically to you, but many might still find them useful when the occasion comes around.

First decide which printer you want and why, remember buy cheap pay twice.

The initial outlay costs should not be your biggest concern when purchasing your new printer.

Do you need archival prints or just something that will look good for a few years.

There are lots of bells and whistles to think about too, so do you your homework first.

Surfboard Decals

Hi to all from a new member, and thanks in advance to anyone willing to offer some advice.

I want to print colour decals onto thin rice paper, and laminate them onto surfboards (the bare rice paper becomes virtually invisible once resin soaks into it) . I've tried to research best inks and printers for this, but I can't get any clarity on the best products.
I'm willing to buy a new printer (in the home/office price range) that has suitable ink cartridges available.
So I have the following...

I have a epson r3000 and a P800 both running inktec powerchrome k3 pigment inks.
I have downloaded the paper profiles for each specific printer from the paper supplier yet the difference in print is big.
I need to get them to print as close as possible to each other.
Do I need to invest in a colour calibration kit?
Will that get both print results from either printer to look similar?
I've seen a coupe for second hand spyder4studio for approx £300, the newer model is £450 in the UK and the...

Best consumer-level printer that also prints CD/DVDs?

I'm aware that there are CD/DVD printers that cost several hundred dollars. What I'm looking for is a reliable photo-printer that also prints CD/DVDs and that is at the non-professional price (i.e., <$200).

I started with an HP printer several years ago and when that died bought an Epson 610. I was pleased with the Epson until banding started on photos and other graphics. I had installed some after-market ink so assumed that was the problem and decided to purchase a second 610 and to...

50mm > 75mm roll adapters - Any idea where I can buy a couple?

It is possible that these little things have a special name and as I do not know it, my searches on Ebay and elsewhere are not getting me very far.

If someone knows what I should search for, please enlighten me!

The printer I have can handle either 50mm rolls or 75mm rolls - but as it was second hand, did not come with all "extras" - notable for their absence was the "adaptors / sleeves" which allow you to convert the 50mm paper holders on the paper holder to 75mm.

If anyone knows where I...

Brother bottled ink BT5000/6000

Epson and Canon are offering printers with ink tanks for the ink supply instead of cartridges, Epson with the L....series and Ecotank ET.. models and Canon with the G...series models. Both supply bottled inks with various different fade performance characteristics - the Canon bottled inks are not Chromalife inks and Epson's L3xx/4xx inks don't match the Claria inks either. Brother is selling as well some ink tank models in some areas of the world, but with much less presence in Western...

Looking for a durable B/W Text Printer with CISS

Hi,
i need a recommendation for a simple Black and White (color not needed) Home Printer. Only for Text, Tables and Lists. It would be nice if there is any known CISS for this printer available. I dont mind modding a printer to get a low cost per page.
Price could be around 140€ (~170$). Dont mind if its new, old or used, as long as its long-living and easy to maintain.

I am only using standard paper (A4). Printing about 500-1500 pages/month. Computer is using Windows 7.
I dont need any...

Stationery Printing Dye or Pigment

I do a fair amount of Stationery printing. It's often folded cards with reproduced drawn/painted elements.
Been on the old but still very very capable Epson 2200. Poor old man. Kicking along but slow as a snail and OEM ink is gone scary quick. Also seeing some of the newer printers have a much high resolution and would love to see if I can get a little more ink coverage on the page.

Pigment (from what I've read) has more image stability than Dye. Stationery is often handled and exposed to...

Prints outdoors - laminate or not using pigment or dye?

I'm tying to figure out what type of printer to go with but have a few questions about making sure my prints last at least 1 year outdoors with no fading.

First, Pigment Inks: I've been doing tons of research and quickly learned on here that pigment ink is preferred when you know that your material will be exposed to UV light. But I'm unsure whether an over-laminate is still needed or not. Would print colors last for at least 1 year without over-laminate? I'll be printing on...

White Inkjet Ink printing question.

Hello, I currently own and use a Canon Pixima Pro-100.

I am trying to print on some non standard substrates, like transparencies or holographic foils.
To do this I first treat them with Ink-aid brand coatings which seem to work fine.

The only problem when doing this is obviously you need white behind what you are printing to see the image the way it is intended to look. I have decided the only way I will really be able to do this is run through my print twice, first pass being the spot...

Printer profile: Colormunki native software vs ArgyllCMS

I have been producing many printer profiles for different ink sets for my printers using my Colormunki Photo and a few years ago I tried ArgyllCMS. It was quite cumbersome to type in the cryptic commands to produce the different files and finally to obtain the printer profile. I can say the results are fantastic.

The normal X-Rite Colormunki software uses a two-step method to produce a printer profile: first you will have to print a target of 50 patches, read the patches from which the...

In Search of ink cart's color bar stripe

I have a disc printer (Signature II) that uses 'special' Primera ink cartridges, which are crazy priced! I realize that a Lexmark 80 is just like what I use (but without the color bar label that the red laser see's/reads).
So if someone knows of the way to crack this puppy, it will help save my world (or at least my wallet)!
Grateful for any wisdom you can share.

materials best for impermanence

Hi there,

I search for print materials, which provide fast fadening and strong color shifting characteristics.

For my diploma work at an art university (please don`t stop reading now), I experiment with print (im)permanence. I`m glad that I have found this forum, especially the thread "Papers to minimise fade with aftermarket dye inks." which include impressive fading and color shift tests, exactly what I have searched for more then a year (but did not completely answered my question). I...

EU Customs Duties on inks from North America

Can someone from Europe explain why so many potential purchasers of inks from North America are always afraid of the high duties imposed on inks from North America? I am curious about this situation because I do not know the reason why? Is there an industry that the EU is trying to protect?

Again I know nothing of the reason why?

Does it vary by country? or is it all EU based?
